The image depicts a figure with flowing robes, wings outstretched, holding an open book in one hand. The figure appears to be looking off to the side, with a serene expression. The lower part of the image includes a bird upon which the figure is seated. The bird's head is turned slightly upwards, following the direction in which the figure is gazing. The image is rendered in a warm, monochromatic palette. The scene is framed by a silhouette of low boulders along the lower right corner, and a towering cream-white rock rising two-thirds of the way up the composition to our left. Scrubby, celery-green vegetation grows on the rocky outcropping. Near the center, close to the towering white rocks, three people sit, reaching for something near one end of a boat while a fourth person braces against the rock, presumably to push the boat out to the sea. Closer to us, three people on the shore work with a net. Two stand with the net hooked over their shoulders, and a third person crouches in the water with head down. The people all wear simple shirts and pants in shades of tan, mustard yellow, burnt orange, and pale blue. All but two wear hats. The sea meets the shore with frothy white foam and cresting, low waves. The sea beyond fades from pale sage green to arctic blue along the horizon, which comes about a third of the way up the composition. Two sail boats tilt against the wind in the distance. There are several people on horseback, and others standing by horses. Some people are also sitting in horse-drawn carriages. The horses are in a variety of colors, and the people wear formal clothing like suit jackets, top hats, vests, or colorful dresses. People fill the middle of the scene and the green hills that rise to the left, while a wide path is marked off on the right, bordered by fences. There are some tall trees around the area, with people gathering below them. In the distance, a large white building with columns and blue roofs can be seen. There is also a white tent partially behind a hill on the left. The sky above is blue and filled with white and gray clouds.",{"_295":1114,"_297":1115,"_299":1116},"https://img.ochreeditions.com/m/1545.jpg?dl=1","/art/heaton-park-races-nga-52254","/galleries/style/georgian-britain/heaton-park-races-nga-52254",{"_291":375,"_293":376},{"_224":1109,"_125":1110,"_285":1111},{"_275":1106,"_277":1107,"_279":1091,"_281":1108},167.6,105.38271484375,90.38271484375,{"_287":224,"_123":1112,"_154":1113,"_140":89},{"_287":125,"_123":370,"_154":371,"_140":372},{"_287":285,"_123":367,"_154":368,"_140":369},"artist/contemporaries-of-john-ferneley","John Ferneley's contemporaries","https://img.ochreeditions.com/a/1545/480.jpg","https://img.ochreeditions.com/a/1545/960.jpg","https://img.ochreeditions.com/a/1545/1920.jpg",{"_311":1129,"_313":1130},{"_311":1127,"_313":1128},{"_311":1125,"_313":1126},{"_311":1123,"_313":1124},{"_311":1122,"_313":1076},"#9f8033","#8d875e",0.1394,"#c3b585",0.2253,"#6f5627",0.234,"#493b20",0.2742,"John Ferneley","john-ferneley","British, 1782–1860",1860,{"_1136":-5,"_1137":1138,"_1139":1140,"_1141":8,"_1142":1143,"_1144":8},"user","csrf","5107aaf16e2378e572e74b07f66f404ad3006b38","cartCount",0,"dropLive","legal",[1145,1146,1147,1148,1149,1150,1151,1152,1153,1154,1155,1156],"uploadsEnabled",{"_221":1179,"_20":1180},{"_221":1177,"_20":1178},{"_221":1175,"_20":1176},{"_221":1173,"_20":1174},{"_221":1171,"_20":1172},{"_221":1169,"_20":1170},{"_221":1167,"_20":1168},{"_221":1165,"_20":1166},{"_221":1163,"_20":1164},{"_221":1161,"_20":1162},{"_221":1159,"_20":1160},{"_221":1157,"_20":1158},"credits","Open-Access Credits","accessibility","Accessibility Statement","vulnerability-disclosure","Vulnerability Disclosure Policy","own-photo","Printing Your Own Photo","copyright","Copyright and DMCA Policy","agents","Agent & API Terms","acceptable-use","Acceptable Use Policy","cookies","Cookie Policy","privacy","Privacy Policy","limited-editions","Limited Editions and Certificates","sale","Terms of Sale","terms","Terms of Use"]
